National Library's Services to Schools provides resources, information and guides to help develop your school library services, create engaged readers and support learners.
Schools and home educators are welcome to borrow from our extensive fiction, non-fiction and audiovisual resources to support students with inquiry, and to encourage and develop their love of reading.

School Library Advisory Services offer support and guidance on creating welcoming, culturally inclusive school library environments and services. This includes all aspects of school library development and management including professional advice on:
- How your school library can create readers and support literacy development in your school for all students
- How your school library can support inquiry learning
- How to develop your library’s collection to meet the needs of the students in your school - a mix of print and online resources
- Advice on providing the best access to your library’s resources through an online catalogue
- Library building or refurbishment projects
- ICT developments in information access

Guidelines for school library development
The publication, jointly produced by the Ministry of Education and the National Library of New Zealand (2002) The School library and learning in the information landscape: guidelines for New Zealand Schools provides a framework of six guiding principles for school library development.
