Reading Superheroes Competition


Congratulations to all of the schools who participated in the 2012 Reading Superheroes competition, supported by New Zealand Book Month. This competition acknowledges the reading role models who have made an outstanding contribution to developing a student or students’ love of reading.

We were overwhelmed by the many heartwarming stories of teachers, librarians, principals, fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, grandparents and siblings who read together with the students. In 2012 we also have schools and classes as Reading Superheroes. This is to reward and acknowledge the numerous entries and other evidence, which indicates a healthy and well-established reading culture  within the school.

This year we also awarded prizes to the most creative and inspirational student entries. We received poems, prose, stories, song lyrics, videos and comics from students around the country telling us about their Reading Superhero. The quality of entries was very high, which made it exceedingly difficult to make our selection. However, we are delighted to announce the following winners of the 2012 Reading Superheroes competition:
