Digital Discovery Day – places filling fast

We warmly invite teachers, public, tertiary and school librarians to National Library’s first Digital Discovery Day, at Wanganui Intermediate, 21 June.

However, you’ll have to move fast – places have been filling quickly, as this is proving to be a popular professional development day!

You’ll have the opportunity for hands on exploration of digital resources and time to discuss how you can present, promote and use them to enrich learning programmes for your library users at all levels.

School Library Profile Survey 2012

Services to Schools provide support to all New Zealand schools, helping schools develop quality library services that support your students.

The annual school survey enables us to fulfil two important goals; to build a nationwide picture of NZ school libraries and to ensure we have current information about your school library. The collated information will help us shape our current and future services.

We invite the person with library management responsibility to complete this survey. It takes about 10 minutes to complete this survey. The survey will be online until 31 March 2012.

If you have problems accessing the survey online we have a pdf version available for print.

Professional Learning and Development Programme 2012

To find out more about the aims and course description for your chosen course, just scroll down below the list of all the delivery locations and you’ll find it there.

Do pass on this information to teachers in your school, starting with the Term 1 course, Inspiring readers - creating a dynamic reading culture in your school.

If your school has someone new on the library team, we’re offering a three-day course - School libraries supporting learning - an introduction. In addition to three face-to-face days early in Terms 2, 3 and 4, this course includes a supported programme of in-school learning.

Some changes this year:

- By registering before the Earlybird Rate expires, you’ll receive a 10% reduction on the course fee.
- Close-off for all registrations is two weeks prior to a course. It’s at this point that we’ll decide whether a course will go ahead or not, so it’s really important to get your registration in on time.
- We’ll be invoicing schools as soon as the course registrations close.

Our 2012 programme direction is based on research findings for effective, professional development in New Zealand schools, and focuses on transforming library practice to better support student learning in your school.

Do take a look at what we’re offering this year - and get your registrations in early!
