In his cartoon Nisbet draws attention to an often heated debate around the role of a pesticide called 1080. This poison (sodium fluoroacetate) is widely used to directly kill possums (and sometimes rabbits), which are destroying our native flora and fauna. Opponents of 1080 claim it also accidentally kills our native wildlife and non targeted animals like deer, and dogs. Those in favour point out that currently 1080 is one of the safest, and most productive solutions for protecting our wildlife
How does 1080 work as a poison?
