Learning objectives

Course will enable participant schools to:

  • define what a ‘balanced 21st Century library collection’ might mean for your students
  • learn more about print and e-resources and the tools to read them - implications for your students
  • make a start on your e-Reference collection
  • design and implement your own library-based student learning initiative, targeting a group of students in your school who could benefit from your proposed collection development directions.

Course content

Course content will explore such issues as:

  • what your library budget should focus on by way of print and e-resources, to build a balanced collection for your students
  • identifying the learning needs your library collection is designed to meet through its collection
  • availability and access - print and electronic - some of the issues and opportunities
  • a 21st Century Reference Collection - what this might look like
  • ebooks - exploring issues for adding these to your library collection
