In this gallery you will find a range of primary sources relating to early contact with Māori by Pakeha up to and including the 1860s.

These range from paintings and photographs to maps and illustrations. Collectively they show how Europeans viewed and depicted the many activities, technologies and experiences of Māori at the time.
