We want to help create motivated and engaged young readers. This blog is about children's and YA literature (especially New Zealand), literacy research, and ways to get, and keep, kids reading.
There are a number of up and coming events to celebrate and remember the outstanding achievements and life of Margaret Mahy.
In Auckland on Saturday 11th August at 2.30 a public memorial gathering organised by the Storylines Children’s Literature Trust will celebrate Margaret Mahy’s life. The location is the Auckland Town Hall and the gathering will feature contributions from writers, related professional organisations and children.
Meanwhile on August 11 throughout the rest of the country many New Zealand libraries will be hosting authors, illustrators, and other enthusiasts who will read aloud from their favorite Margaret Mahy books. Check the Facebook page organized by Johanna Knox and Maria Gill here for details of when and where, or contact your your local public library.
