You against Me by Jenny Downham

Mike and Ellie walk a tightrope. Can they sustain their relationship?

You against meMikey has not had a good day in weeks! His sister Karyn is fearful of leaving the house, his mother is crumbling under pressure, his little sister is neglected and his only silver lining, (a new relationship with Ellie), is really a double-edged sword.

Ellie who should be Mikey’s adversary is torn apart by guilt and an attraction so dangerous it threatens to destroy her family.

The authors captivates the reader with her complex story that circles around these two main protagonists. Because of their imperfections they are likeable, down-to-earth, and believable.

Told from the point of view of Mikey and Ellie, the plot is revealed in measured degrees to leave you divided between sympathy and suspicion and wondering too, what would your stance be if placed in a similar situation.

You against me is a confluence of flawless plotting and a prose that is both sophisticated and free-flowing.

Thank you for a great review, Janice. Downham is an exceptional author for her ability to create believable characters. Her themes make you think what would you do if you were confronted with this in your own life? I discovered her when I read her first novel “Before I die”.
