Secondary schools and composite schools (secondary year levels) can order individual author/title loans at any time of the year to support student learning. The online loan request form calls these requests 'individual items'.
What's an 'author/title' loan or request?
The National Library offers 2 types of author/title orders:
- secondary school author/title loans — individual loans for secondary schools and composite schools (secondary year levels) available at any time of the year to support student learning
- whole-school author/title requests — orders that are part of your whole-school loan and available to all schools (including secondary)
Loan coordinators — let teachers know about author/title orders
Let your teachers know they can order individual titles to support their teaching. Set up a process where they can tell you the titles they need.
Collections and issue periods for secondary school loans
You can borrow items from the Schools Lending Collection or the National Library Collections (General), provided a borrowing copy is available when our librarians prepare your loan.
Items from the Schools Lending Collection are issued for 2 terms. Items from the National Library Collections (General) have a loan period of 5 weeks. Their due dates are listed on the printout that comes with your loan.
Note that your school will be charged a replacement fee for any lost books borrowed from the National Library Collections (General).
Our digital resources can also support students
Digital resources, such as EPIC and our prototype Topic Explorer, can be effective complements to your loans.

Whole-school author/title requests
Schools can order up to 5 individual author/titles as part of their whole-school inquiry or reading engagement loan. These items come from the Schools Lending Collection and have the same issue period as the whole-school loan.
