Collections 11: Magazines for school libraries

Magazines form a popular part of the browsing collection in most New Zealand school libraries.  Here we’ve collated a list of magazines suitable for inclusion in your library collection, a mix of print and online versions, together with a list of suppliers.

A selective list for New Zealand schools: Introduction

As there are numerous choices available, especially in the lifestyle, leisure and sports areas, some well known titles like Crème, Girlfriend, N.Z Woman’s Weekly, North and South, Pulp, Netball, Rugby, Speed Sports (& other familiar titles) are omitted. Titles that may not be as freely available or well-known have been included.

Magazines considered to be more suitable for secondary libraries have an asterisk * beside the title.

In most cases, subscriptions can be made via the link provided next to the magazine title. Otherwise (where possible), alternative links to online suppliers have been listed underneath the subscription price. Cover prices along with subscription prices have been included where they could be verified.

Talk to your regular supplier, check out some online subscription services or consult with your colleagues on the school library listserv about new or popular titles.

Titles listed are not recommendations but are given to indicate the range that is available.

All magazine details were checked and web links accessed during January 2010. However, the Internet is a dynamic and fast-changing environment, and websites can and do change without notice. Subscription prices may also change without notice.
