National Library of New Zealand - Te Puna Mātauranga O Aotearoa Services to Schools - Supporting literacy and learning

Tools and Guides

The range of guides, worked examples and templates offered here have been rewritten and updated.  They provide a range of practical tools to help school library teams throughout New Zealand manage your school library and develop your library collection.

You will find worked examples and blank templates attached in Word and PDF formats at the end of relevant guides.

These tools can be grouped into the following broad areas:

  • Managing your school library
  • Developing and managing your school library collection
  • Providing access to information:  your integrated library system (ILS) - sometimes referred to in schools as a ‘library management system’ or ‘automated library system’ - and a guide to cataloguing your library collection
  • The library as ‘place’ - the physical environment

Here is a list of guides - many of which have blank templates and worked examples to help you.
