Description

With the advent of international air travel tourist visitors to New Zealand steadily climbed in the 1960s. A major selling point by the tourist department (apart from the promotion of Māori culture as an exotic destination) was New Zealand’s ‘pristine natural environment’ and a chance for visitors to experience early adventure tourism. Tourists were invited to visit and explore our ‘untouched’ scenery from geysers to the Tasman glacier in this photograph.
