Description

Kai moana means seafood in Māori. For many along New Zealand’s coastline it is considered an important cultural, customary and economic activity to gather, cook and share kai from the sea. However, the impact of agriculture, over fishing and land development has seen stocks of coastal kai moana decline in many areas over the last half of the 20th century. Seafood like shellfish and kina are very susceptible to pollution and sediment runoff  from land development.
