Description

Awareness and protection of New Zealand’s environment is not only restricted to the land. Since 1975 over 30 marine reserves have been established around New Zealand. In these areas all marine life is protected and it is illegal to remove or deliberately disturb any creature living in them. Along with these reserves are a number of Universities, centres and organisations whose mission is to actively educate and promote marine conservation. This photograph shows the proposed site for a marine conservation centre at Te Raekaihou Point, Lyall Bay, Wellington, which in the end did not go ahead.

Discussion

Where is the nearest marine reserve to where you live?
