Description

In this cartoon Emmerson cleverly touches on the relationship between global warming and oil consumption by juxtaposing them as vehicle dashboard gauges. By doing so he reveals our dependence on fossil fuels for transport and our high consumption of petrol (one factor in global warming) and large cars. Emmerson also draws attention to the lack of alternative technology (the low gauge) that will eventually replace our petroleum based infrastructure when oil runs out. The result; an accident waiting to happen.

Discussion

What are some of the alternatives to using petrol to fuel cars?
