Home Run Books

I thought I would take up the idea of Home Run books. One of the priorities I set was to demystify our fiction section so the students would be able to access the books and find the books that they really wanted to read.

To start off we chose all the Choose Your Own Adventure books scattered throughout the collection. The idea being the simple bite size stories would grab children and empower them to read more. A staff member produced a display to grab the students attention. I have tried to add a picture of the display but can't get it to copy.

The display directly connected to the books with the children keen to find the books that matched the pictures in some way.

We will continue highlighting different areas of the fiction with displays aimed for the 7 - 10 year olds to introduce the students to series and high interest books that might become their home run books.

What a great start to your

What a great start to your project! Displaying possible Home Run books is sure to hook in some of those reluctant readers. Unfortunately, we can’t add photos to posts, but you can put it on Flickr and add the link in the post. Email it to me if you don’t have a Flickr account and I can do it for you.
