What can schools expect?

The National Library is transforming the way it supports schools. We want to increase the reach and impact of our services, ensuring their sustainability and enabling the system-wide improvement of library services for young people. Our vision is for young people to have access to effective and connected library services and library environments that support their development as readers and digitally literate learners.

Our services focus on the priority areas of reading engagement, digital literacy and modern library learning environments. Full details of our new services can be found in the DRAFT Integrated Services Model on the Services to Schools transformation documents page.

Digital content service

The National Library through services such as DigitalNZ acts as a conduit to millions of digital resources from almost 200 New Zealand organisations. Over the next eighteen months we will be running a service design process with schools, stakeholders and experts to ensure we have a sustainable platform for the future that provides easy and effective access for schools to these and other National Library digital resources.

When fully up and running our digital content service will provide quality, curated digital content, and tools guides and exemplars for use of that content in the context of teaching and learning.

Our group of 15 service design schools will help us refine the digital content service throughout 2016.

System support service

Our system support service connects and supports educators and school libraries at a national level. Organised through the National Development Centre, often involving significant partners and implemented nationally, the service provides frameworks, products and expertise to assist individual libraries and the library, education and literacy sectors as a whole.

We are in the early stages of exploring how we might work with a range of partners on collaborative projects.
